Instant Messaging

A forum is about community and communication. And there are plenty of ways to communicate between users: Instant Messaging, E-mail, ICQ, AIM and YIM. Of course, all methods of communication are only available only if you allow them. An exception is Instant Messaging, which is is a self-contained, highly private mail system for all users of this forum.

This feature is for registered users only!

Instant Messaging

While email is a good way to correspond privately with members, it has several drawbacks: The recipient must accept to show his/her e-mail address to the web; you must open your e-mail application to write and send the message; the recipient must open his/her e-mail application; check his/her mail and your message will mixed in with all the other mail and it can take sometimes several minutes to an hour for mail to reach the recipient.

As an alternative to email, we offer a faster, more private method. Instant Messaging on the boards provides instantaneous delivery to the recipient's Private Mailbox. The mail is sent and received entirely through the forum software, so neither you nor the recipient have to open another program or leave the forum. Instant Messaging also gives both the sender and recipient more privacy: Nobodies e-mail address is revealed. Instant Messages show only the handle and name of both parties.

If a recipient isn't online and has not opted for automatic forwarding by email, Instant Messages wait in the member's Inbox until the next time s/he logs in and manually reads and/or deletes them.

For your convenience, every message you have sent is kept in the Outbox, and the message status icon indicates if it was read by the recipient.

You get to your Inbox by clicking on the small message underneath the top menu, stating the number of messages in your Inbox and how many of them are new.

In the Messaging Preferences you may enable email forwarding, popup notification and specify a list of blocked persons.
