Message for Jaap - Issue with Jape and OPK File Ed

Dear Jaap

I started this puzzle not sure if it was a bug or something about different ROM versions and character sets.

I've created a Birds.ODB file (sample below). The original data file has a code field. This contains various symbols; for this example - one of which is representation of ASCII CHR$(134) † (dagger)

(Different!)
When I opened this Birds.ODB in Jape the ASCII CHR$(134) (dagger) shows a PSION CHR$(253). When I open this Birds.ODB on my LZ64 Rom 4.4 I get the correct CHR$(134) like . Incidentally I think I've found it, when I look at this character in the OPK File Editor its CHR$(253). I think the [Import Item] in OPK File Editor is substituting these characters to CHR$(253).

Its no big deal, but I had the idea of testing this field... IF A.Code$=CHRS(134) etc..

Sample from Birds.ODB (TAB Delimited)
British (English) vernacular name IOC International English name Scientific name Category Codes
Brent Goose Brant Goose Branta bernicla AE
Red-breasted Goose  Branta ruficollis AE* † (Dagger)
Canada Goose  Branta canadensis AC2E* ‡ (Double Dagger)

Anyway I can imagine you thinking - for goodness sake Martin, get a life.

Sincerely
Martin

I think I fixed it by using a different charcter encoding for reading text files, so try it again now.

Jaap

What can I say... you've done it again.

The OPK editor now imports dagger and then of course the organiser displays its substitute CHR$(134) .

Thanks
Martin
