Title: New Hardware
Post by olivierg on Oct 31st, 2017, 10:39pm
Hi,

I have exhausted the first batch of 'Comm links USB', i started new batch with 2 littles updates:
1) Now i use microUSB connector (the miniUSB is 'end of life')
2) I have removed the DC Jack connector and replaced by DC-DC chip for create 9V voltage from microUSB connector, now we can transfer in exhausted batteries.

I have launched the PCB production for FLASHPAK 256K (may be 512K). Estimate price 25 Euro.

I launch production of PCB for replace the POWER ADAPTER CONNECTOR using external transformer, by microUSB connector for connect to standard 5V power supply. Estimate price 6 Euro.

thanks
Olivier

That's great new Olivier!
Most of us still have the mini USB cables, as we used to be flooded with them.  Had I known that you were going to change, I have plenty of mini USB surface mount and you are welcome to a dozen, or so for free.  Still, onward!

In the other post, you mention closing the Pak cover, but in most cases, it isn't really a big issue as long as the back cover is there.

The 512k possibility is really interesting - looking forward to developments!

The USB powering of a Psion must be a first too!  Anything that reduces the boxes of transformer-filled wall-warts that we all have is good news. ;-)

The new version of comms links is available.
I think I had a good idea to replace the DC jack connector with a DC-DC converter, it is more useful.

Thanks
Olivier

Hi All,

The PSU board is available. You can connect 5V standard power supply with microUSB cable.

The PCB fit in PSION power case (just drill for led or cut led) or Comms link's case.

Thanks
Olivier

Got the new comms link yesterday Olivier and working 100% OK. It even connects instantly. The new type saves a large power plug in the end. Excellent. Thank You. Raymond

Dear All

Me too..

Got a new USB powered Comms Link from Oliver. Worked 'out of the box' on my tablet and home desktop. For some reason I had to download the D2xx driver from the ftdi web site on my works desktop PC, Olivier has the address if you need it. Also it didn't play nicely with a powered USB hub, but works fine though its own (rear) USB port.

I am waiting until I have the Organiser backed-up before I take out the battery and see if this itsy-bitsy USB port can really power the organiser!

To Olivier - Thank you it's a great piece of kit. I am using it at work mainly to print out via the Print Mode on Psi2Win.

To TheSourcerer - Fits nicely into the Top Slot Adaptor Case your supplied. I 3D printed some small port covers to blank the holes in the top of the adaptor.

Sincerely and in good faith
Martin

I used a slot-cover or datapack case for this. Using a sharp knife I cut off part of the flat side the datapack case and glued it in place in the hole of the comms link case.

Dear Jaap

Good idea, will also be a good colour match.

My next project is to 'make' (actually re-make) my 128k workshop datapak. I'm struggling to use 'MAKE.exe' with DOSbox via the USB link, so I'm going to have a look at Filip's Load utility and mix in some .ODB, .OB7 and .NTS files. Should be fun. I'll practice on some 32k Datapaks that Peter TheSourcerer sent me with my Top Slot Adaptor cover.

Sincerely Martin
