XP or LZ?
« on: Nov 2nd, 2018, 12:54pm »

I recently bought myself a CM, but regret doing so due to the lack of memory. I'm now trying to decide which is the better route for upgrade.

XP = More memory, same size screen
LZ = Larger screen, more memory

I'm probably going to use the Org2 mostly for jotting down notes or writing short entries for my blog.

Definitely LZ64!  This the best one to get.  The LZ was where they were really trying to improve the 'PDA' experience, so we got Notes and Files and a bunch of other things, plus yes, the 4 lines makes a real difference to usability.

The only place where an CM or XP shine is the display readability, due to the larger font size and the ability to display Japanese katakana as a result of the Hitachi LCD chip set used on those machines (the LZ can't show katakana).

Hmm

I'm not familiar with the extra software, could I trouble you for a little info? Files? Notes? I'm assuming the latter is some form of memo taker?

Dear James

You could have a look at this...

http://forum.psion2.org/YaBB.pl?board=fm_general;action=display;num=1535 035288;start=6

Also Jaap has placed the Psion Demo Pack on his pack images page so you can download and [Select OPK file] in Jape to demonstrate each model.

Like I say... try before you buy.

Sincerely and in good faith
Martin

PS Took a look at your blog.. very interesting... if you get yourself another Organiser you could turn your CM into a pi-case.

There are a couple of tear down video's here..

Pardon a (hopefully brief) thread hijack...

I've wanted an LZ for a while now -- one of two things on my PSION Christmas List (so to speak), the other being a Linux-able CommsLink program

So, how much are LZs worth these days?

Dear Starhawk

When I look on UK eBay they seem to go for less money over here that where you are.
Bidding starts for a little as 10.00 but generally they sell for 35 to 50 for an LZ.

We can see on the eBay international list that they are silly money in the US; there are three there at the present, in ...

Pennsylvania $100.00
Norfolk, Virginia, $229.00
Lumberton, New Jersey $617.50

I realise the complication of getting one sent over from the UK, but perhaps if you make a request with thesourcerer at least you would know it is from a reputable source.

Sincerely and in good faith.
Martin

PS it looks like it is down to you to write the Linus CommsLink interface.

...maybe I can get myself an LZ for Christmas. We'll see...

As for the CommsLink bit -- I'd do it if I could. I am by no means a programmer! The world is a far better place when I stick to hardware

I'd post a bounty for it, but... well... that's money, again, and, well...

...maybe for Christmas next year

I don't mean to be a buzz kill, but if there's any chance of getting back to what I originally posted. That would be great

Can't help feeling this thread has drifted a tad.

Sorry, dude, didn't mean to make *that* big a mess, lol...

I've an XP, but I've not used it enough to really say one way or the other. It was my father's before it was mine, though, and he's always seemed pretty impressed with it.

Just going on the premise that "bigger is better" -- I guess, get an LZ if you can, and an XP if you can't, would be my recommendation.

202478387073 is 40 Buy  It Now but in great condition.  This is a great price BTW, so if I wanted one, I'd go for this.

Here is our section on the manual - a great way to see what the advantages are.

As I said, 202478387073 is a good deal and there might not be another like it.
