Copying DataPaks query

Hi All,
Are the commercial DataPaks such as the Oxford Dict and Spellchecker and others that were produced by the likes of Widget some years ago still copyrighted or can they be copied for distribution between  members.
It is very difficult to source any of these Paks now.
Thesourcerer seems to be the only decent source of Psion Org II hardware and is providing a great service.

Difficult one this!

If the copyright owners have relinqueshed rights then all is OK.

Otherwise:
Types of work to which copyright applies:
Literary
Including: song lyrics, manuscripts, computer programs,  leaflets, newsletters & articles etc.

The 1988 Copyright, Designs and Patents Act states the duration of copyright as;

70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the last remaining author of the work dies.

If the work is of unknown authorship: 70 years from end of the calendar year in which the work was created, or if made available to the public in that time, (by publication, authorised performance, broadcast, exhibition, etc.), 70 years from the end of the year that the work was first made available.

As the OrgII is not 70 years old yet........

Best thing to do is to trace the publishing company and enquire?

Dear mark ,
I am writing on behalf of the organiser II web site to ask for you're permission to put details widget data pack softe and instructions on our website.

Also if you would be willing to make the programs contained on widget data packs public domain so we may publish them on our site. If they are no longer supported by youre sselves also, any help you could give us would be much appreciated. To keep the Psion II alive

That's great to hear.
Does anyone have a list of the Paks or programmes that Widget produced.
Were any other companies asked for permission to reproduce their software for the Psion Website. How about Psion itself. ??

You can phone, e-mail, snail mail, fax or walk up to Psion PLC, the answer - if any - it is stereotypically:
"Sorry, we ceased support for this model."

But If anyone wants to try: www.psion.com/contacts.asp

Good Luck!

Hi Again,
I didn't realise that this question had been raised before. I omitted to look back at the previous pages in the Forum. Sorry about that.
I think however that it might be a good idea to put a list of the programmes and Paks that were/are available, who produced them and their functions up somewhere on the site (or is this available already). I know that there are some available for download from the site but there may be other interesting ones that people have come across.
