Pack size versus chip size?

I am looking at a 16K RAMpack, but the underside is marked 32K. The IC inside is a MF27256F1, this in its data sheet says 256 bit, can anyone confirm the actual size of this pack?

The usual size is noted in kilobits and you have to sort of guess (or sometimes part number gives away) the width.  An xx256 class chip on the Psion, which uses 8b I/O, should be a 256Kbit arranged in 8b words, or 32K words of 1 byte each.
In simple terms, 32KBytes.  FWIW, that part sounds like a UVEPROM to me, not a SRAM.

Tact is for those who are not witty enough to be sarcastic.
