Has anyone ever tried interfacing a UART, such as the 6402, to the org2? how was the handshaking and reading the UART implemented?

There have been quite a few attempts to build a commslink replacement.
As far as I know, none succeeded (except of the commerial ones e.g. datalogic)

The problem is that the top slot is difficult to handle:
Internally it is seen as pack D, and that's the way it is hardwired.
There are a few differenced though, e.g. the voltage pump used for writing to the (E)EPROMS on the packs is *not* connected. If you had that in mind, you must interface slots B or C.

But the main drawback of the design is: There is no (simple) way to access files while accessing the top slot!

Also OPL doesn't allow access to the port registers, so the project will have to be in machine code.

Conclusio:
If you do it, you're in the hall of fame
