Title: Can I build my own CommsLink?
Post by Boris on Sep 13th, 2004, 7:18pm
Can I make a Comms link myself?
No.

Physically connecting wires to the top slot of the organiser is relatively easy, but this is not what makes up a serial link.
The organiser needs complicated software to access and control communications through the cable. Furthermore, it is easily possible to damage the organiser's hardware by attempting this.
The main reason for these difficulties is that the top slot is in many ways just like the datapack slots at the side (which is how the communications software is loaded in the standard comms link), and therefore very intricate.

A very lively discussion (http://forum.psion2.org/YaBB.pl?board=fm_general;action=display;num=1095098962) started in reply to this topic.
It was removed from the FAQ (did't really fit here).
